How to Make Giving Better than Receiving

posted on 17 May 2012 in Fashion

Everyone likes to receive gifts. But to see a loved one’s face light up when they receive something meaningful is something you won’t ever forget. If you want your gift to create that kind of feeling you’ll want to take your time choosing it. Having had more than my fair share of such experiences, I’ll tell you about how I choose the presents for friends and family. First, you must completely shed your own personal preferences. And, quite possibly, even your own tastes, since you may have to live with your gift, in case it is for your spouse or kids. Secondly, you have to forget about preconceived notions of value. If the person receiving the gift really likes it, it doesn’t matter if it cost $20 or $200. Third, don’t just offer a gift because you are expected to. A simple, unexpected demonstration of affection or consideration weights much more than an expensive gift just because it’s that time of the year. Lastly, think about making a gift - that will ensure it's utterly unique - I like to make jewellery with my jewellery making kits from time to time.

On Ways for a Business to Market Themselves Without the Internet

posted on 17 May 2012 in Business and Finance

There are many ways that a business can market themselves without the internet. Just because this is now a revelation in marketing, a lot of the basics in marketing techniques are ignored, yet still effective. From exhibition bags to flyers to billboards, there are many ways to get your logo seen. However, the most effective way to market a business is in my opinion (and if you have the budget), the television. The amount of people in the world that watch the television at least once daily is a very large amount. This means that a television ad for the business will be shown to millions upon millions of people, and because it will be a visual advertisement, the chances that the person seeing it will remember it is even higher. I personally find that if I see a business on TV, I am more likely to use that than if I was to be contacted through the telephone. It feels as if the business is more professional, has a higher budget, and is more legitimate.

Things That Would Have Made Me Love My Job More

posted on 16 May 2012 in Business and Finance

When I was a full time employee more than fifteen years ago, I had to be at the office from eight in the morning until five in the afternoon, six days a week. As if that schedule wasn’t grueling enough, my boss also required me to render overtime every so often. I was well-compensated though, so I stayed with the company for six years. Still, thinking back to that time, I wish I had the following: a calmer, more approachable superior flexible working hours a time and place for power naps co-workers who weren’t difficult and who didn’t gossip a lot a job title that really meant what it said and my own computer. I wish my boss had gone on something like a leadership development program too. If I had these then, I am sure that I would have been more productive, and office life would have been more enjoyable. Conversely, I was grateful for the advantages that I did have at my previous workplace such as high pay, free food, free uniforms, lots of space, and the occasional shuttle service.

Choosing a Bike Over a Car Has Many Advantages

posted on 13 May 2012 in Recreation and Hobbies

I recently replaced my two wheeled, leg powered vehicle, with a car. While there are many perks to having a car, I have found myself, oddly enough, missing my early morning bike ride to work on my bmw bicycle. At the time, I resented cold morning rides and, after a long day of work in construction, the last thing I wanted to do was bike home. I would get in the door, sweaty and tired, drag my bike through the house to balcony and collapse on the couch like a pile of jelly. But looking back, I really enjoyed getting some quiet time to reflect. I have a family, and while I love spending time with them more then anything, it’s now a rare moment that I have time for myself. Biking also saves you a lot of money, and saves the environment too. I spend several hundred dollars a month on a car, and while it may be quicker to get around, I’m not always sure the benefits outweigh the money. Of course there was also the exercise factor. I work a warehouse job now, and I don’t get the same amount of exercise that I did when I was working construction. I drive to work, sit in my chair most of the day then drive home. Biking gave me the exercise that I didn’t get at work, even if I didn’t always want it. There are many good things about having a car. But if you bike now, like I did, don’t resent it. Because one day, you may realise you miss it.

My Little Garden Getaway

posted on 11 May 2012 in Home and Garden

My garden is my getaway. A place that I can slip into like a pair of comfortable old shoes, especially under my gazebo - nothing better than to sit there with a good book to read. Or, maybe I pull on my gloves, a spade in hand, and let myself disappear into the simple labour of cropping and pulling weeds, planting seeds and feeling the cool earth gently flow between my fingers. Last year I used a solar powered mole repeller to rid myself of pests. I colour my garden like a canvas, the bright reds of my tomatoes sparkling against the deep greens of my cucumbers and zucchini. Tulips and roses, subtle visual players that I allow to peak around the edges, accent the delicate balance with their pungent sweet scents. My family and friends delight as I serve up my culinary creations, surrounded by the blossoming flowers and the shining sun. But at the end of the day, when the sun has set and all is quiet, I am at peace, alone with my garden. My garden is my getaway, where I can be myself.

Email Marketing: What Makes It So Great to Businesses

posted on 9 May 2012 in Internet Related

With the growing cost of running a business, companies are aiming to try to reach their target audiences with minimum overheads. Advertising these days can be an expensive procedure, especially through mediums such as television or radio. The internet, however, has driven the prices down, and by advertising in sites which comsumers use is a great way to reach a target audience. For example, advertising cinemas on a film critics blog. The use of an email takes this to a whole new level. Many companies would like to reach out to regular customers through this medium because it cost so little, and working for an email marketing consultancy, I know that mass emails can be sent to thousands of customers at once, with no costs for printing or post. Many email programs can also include options to have the name changed to make the email personalised to each consumer, with very little extra work. Some existing businesses already do this on a regular basis, giving consumers up to date information on products and prices. If any special offer comes up, they can let their customers know within the hour. One such company which does this is maplin electronics. By collecting emails through their online shopping services and in store, they are able to replace their post-based service in which regular cutomers recieved a special offer magazine. Other than cost, there are many other advantages to this system. It is more reliable compared to post, and can contain links to the website which will have a more in depth product overview. Also, vouchers/codes can be included for discounts or BOGOF (Buy one Get One Free) offers at no etra cost. By giving customers the option to sign up to this service when consumers visit their site, it can grow quite fast, but puts little extra strain on a company financially or time-wise.

Let the Bubbles Melt Away the Troubles

posted on 7 May 2012 in Home and Garden

After a long and busy week in the office, I think there is no better way to unwind than with a nice chill out in my second hand hot tub. The hustle of everyday life takes it toll on all of us, but with a hot tub blasting its soothing jets over my aching muscles, I find myself reinvigorated and ready to face an exciting weekend. Of course, it's not just for Friday night, you can jump in anytime for a quick relaxation session, or to spend some fun time with the kids or set a romantic mood for your partner, and don't forget you can always use it to entertain guests and become the popular host amongst of all your jealous friends. You can choose from a huge range of different hot-tub and spa styles, including indoor or outdoor, number of seats and a limitless amount of finishing options (I personally love the smell of wood, but my wife prefers pretty marble designs.) I'm pretty sure we can all agree, there's nothing like some bubbles to melt away your troubles.

How to Reset Your Facebook Account Password

posted on 6 May 2012 in Technology

Face book is a social networking site launched in 2004. The site is one of the most popular sites in the internet. By 2011, the chart room had over 700 million users worldwide. A majority of the worlds young population are attracted to face book because of the social opportunities available. Communication in face book is done with the use of text-like posts called updates. In additional persons can communicate with friends via their inbox. The difference, between updating and inboxing in face book is that when you update or one of your friends updates on your wall, all your friends are able to view and reply the update. Inboxing is rather personal as only the sender and recipient are able to view the message. Thus inboxing is a way of communicating with your personal friends on face book. Like most chart rooms, to log in to facebook a user will need his/her email address and facebook password. The latter password is got when signing in. For persons seeking to change their facebook password, the process is fairly easy. All you need to do is follow the simple instructions given after clicking on the Change facebook password button that is usually at the bottom of the logging in page. The process takes a few minutes. Thus, you do not have to worry about staying out of facebook for sometime to wait for your new password to be processed.

The Sexiest Rocker Boots I Own

posted on 4 May 2012 in Fashion

My favorite shoes are the Pleaser Electra 2020 by Funtasma (a division of Pleaser that usually makes shoes designed for costume wear). I fell in love with them after seeing Taylor Momsen of the rock band The Pretty Reckless wearing a pair onstage. These are knee high black lace up boots with a zipper on the inner side of the leg to save time from lacing 30 holes every time you need to take the shoes on or off. These shoes are made of black polyurethane but are available in a wide variety of colors, and also in patent leather for a shinier look. These boots have a one inch platform on the front and a four inch heels on the back. They go great with almost anything I wear – shorts and a band shirt, a sexy dress, or skinny black jeans tucked into them. They are both ideal for a sexy vibe as well as that of a rock star vibe. The only time I don't wear these is when the weather forces me to make another choice like last year at the rock festival where I was in my funky wellies moshing around in the crowd!

Old Toys Are Part of My Precious Memories

posted on 2 May 2012 in Toys and Games

As a child I always wanted new and cool toys but not everything I wanted was bought by my parents. Having said that, I enjoyed playing with simple wooden toys and board games as much as wanting the more expensive toys. We didn't have the sophisticated toys of today - not anything like the remote control desert truck my son bought my grandson the other day!

When I was a kid, my parents often told me that we don't have enough money to buy this toys and I'd sometimes cry until I got what I wanted (although sometimes this didn't work anyway!).

Anyways my favorite toy when I was a child is called "Tamiya". Tamiya is a small racing car from Japan, it runs only on a small track and is powered by two double AA batteries. It was very fun playing that because it so darn fast that it made me giggle with excitement just by watching it go around the tracks. As I got older I stopped playing with it. My sister needed to sell old items in our house and one of the things my sister tried to sell was my Tamiya. I got angry at her because she tried to sell one of my favorite toys and she told me that "you're too old to play with these things and you're not playing it anymore so why not sell it?". I realized she was right but I also realized that it is important to me somehow because it made me remember things in my past that I've enjoyed. I've learned that toys - even though old - can bring some good memories back.

Dermal Fillers: a Modern Marvel

posted on 1 May 2012 in Health and Beauty

I've always been nervous when it comes to dental visits - whether it's dermal fillers required, or just a check-up, nerves play up. The only time I remember looking forward to going to the dentist was when I visited my cosmetic dentist in Essex - I guess because I was looking forward to the results.

I used to cycle to work, even in the coldest of weather, and breathing through my mouth - as is necessary, was starting to get quite painful. The cold winds were causing a toothache so unbearable, I knew something had to be done sooner, rather than later. I booked an appointment at the dentist. I have never liked the trip to the dentist, and to be honest, I did not enjoy this one either. Or the one after it. I had to have a root canal surgery. I won't lie, it was one of the most painful things I have ever experienced in a single "hit." It did not last long though. The short sharp pain of the surgery was much more preferable to the continuing, everlasting ache in my mouth. I can't stress enough that if experiencing tooth pain, just go to the dentist!

What you should be doing as a music seller

posted on 19 April 2012 in Business and Finance

Sale of music has become a job for some individuals. This job doesn't require a lot of training and anyone can sell music. The only challenge is to know a lot of music and selling the correct music to the clients. Music selling is also one of the jobs tamworth area has and the musicians are now looking for these people to sell their music. These people have connections to so many clients of music and if a musician has one, they can sell their music far and wide. They will make a very big profit within a short time because of the number of people that this expert will connect them to. As a music seller, you have to be updated with the latest music and give it to the people when they ask for it. Clients want to be sold for the kind of music that is new and good. Clients also have their own choices and they should be respected. The seller should not influence them into buying the music that they don't want or like.

How the catering industry has survived in the UK

posted on 18 April 2012 in Food and Drink

The catering industry in the UK has survived because of how it is linked to the hotel sector. Caterers who work in the UK are all affiliated to hotels as it is not profitable for them to work as separate businesses. The UK has strict laws that are geared toward the promotion of the hotel industry and through government meetings that are held in these venues the caterers have been able to find market. Another thing that has made the uk outside caterer to survive is that it is fairly cheap to get resources that are used in cooking. The wages which are paid to cooks and to chefs who work in catering companies fair that catering business owners can afford them. Also, products such as natural foods are cheap therefore operational expenses for caterers are reduced significantly. This is even when the amounts of money that clients pay for catering services are fairly high therefore caterers are left with high profit margins that can sustain their businesses. Such have made these businesses to thrive in the UK.

Helen Can Be Pretty Unreasonable at Times

posted on 16 April 2012 in Business and Finance

The email from Helen arrived at my inbox an hour earlier and I was surprised that she would ask me for such a favor on such short notice. Really this woman has no sense of decorum some times. How can she expect me to drop everything that I am doing just to accommodate her? When Erica saw the frown on my forehead while reading the email she read it over my should and said Helen should go look for tamworth jobs on her own. She has access to the internet after all so there's no point really in her asking me to do it. I closed my eyes and try to control the anger that was slowly coming to life. By all means Erica was right but I really don't have the nerve to tell refuse Helen so I guess that makes me a coward. But I've never been the confrontational type and I always try to avoid causing tension between my friends. Erica said I am way too kind and agreeable for my good.

When I Yelled to My Brother Build It Yourself

posted on 15 April 2012 in Home and Garden

A boy of ten years was asking his best friend to build a sand castle for him. Since earlier they had a fight, his best friend shouted to him Build It Yourself! The boy proceeded in building the sand castle all alone, without the help of his best friend. He got a small bucket and a toy shovel, and began digging the sands of Hawaii. I remember when I was younger when I yelled to my brother the same thing when he was making a chair. He was so annoying and kept on forcing me to help him when he saw that I was busy. I was making a project at that time for my class and it was a cross stitch with a splendid design of a panther, so I told him to scram. I did not realize that he just wanted me to hold the leg so that he could hammer the nail right through it and fasten the corners, but I was too focused on my cross stitching. We did not speak to each other for a good two weeks after that.

Think Very Carefully First Before Buying A House

posted on 15 April 2012 in Construction and Industrial

I'm 26 years old, unmarried but with a 2 year old daughter and living with a partner. We are planning to get married and buy our own house. I told him that I want to buy some land and that I will make a design of what kind of house we are going to build in that lot. I want to buy in particular roof trusses for the roof interior to give it a more open look. My brother sells construction machinery, so I'm sure he'll have some contacts that can help us achieve this. But if it's not possible, we will choose a two-storey house with wide backyard and a porch. I want a wide backyard so that we can use it any time, a play area for the children and a place if we want to have a small gathering or just any other occasions.

Of course, that backyard should have even just a small landscaping for the peacefulness of the surroundings. We tired looking for one but unfortunately, it's really off the budget. We don't have enough money for the mortgage and the closing costs and for everything else. It's really exciting when you plan on buying a house but it's also really stressful and nerve racking when you get there yourself. You have to search for a convenient place for the whole family, for example school, hospitals or groceries. Of course, you also need to think for the environment you plan to live in if it's a peaceful place or not. You also need to consider you neighborhood if they are friendly or what.

There are many things we have to consider when planning to buy a house. It's not like you want to buy a house then just pick on the first or second one you visit. You have to consider your family not just yourself because they are the one who will be also living there in case you already choose the one. You have to make a list of things you have to consider before making a move because it's really gonna stress you down.

Terms and conditions are applicable even in passports.

posted on 13 April 2012 in Holiday and Travel

So many things that we buy or get ourselves involved with have certain terms and conditions, this is why it is important for you to know what is required of you before getting involved in such agreements. This way you will be able to prevent yourself from many illegal traps. If you take for example the application of a passport, you will find out that different countries have different terms and conditions. An ireland passport will of course differ from that in Mexico because of the laws of these different countries. Consult where possible so that you don’t find yourself trapped in the authorities simply because of your ignorance. It is also advisable that you sign a document which shows the terms and conditions you were given before applying for a passport, also ensure that you have a copy of this agreement with you when you are leaving for another state so that in case of any trouble, you will give it out as evidence. Be careful with these kinds of rules so that you may keep off trouble and enjoy your flights without any problems.

Graffiti: Original And Beautiful Art Or A Hindrance To Society?

posted on 12 April 2012 in Arts and Entertainment

Graffiti can be found all over-from desktops to trees, from abandoned buildings to tunnels, or from walls to signs. It is unusual to go a day without seeing some sort of graffiti, though you may not take much note of it. Personally, I see graffiti as an art form to be marveled and admired. Although Banksy introduced high brow art to the masses, this form of graffiti has been around for years.

For me, graffiti instills a sense of mystery and wonder. When I see graffiti, such as "Frank was here" I cannot help but to wonder. Who is Frank? When was he here? Graffiti always makes me think-which files it under "art" for me. In addition, it is often anonymous expressions of affection or feeling that the artist/writer wishes to express with the world. "JD + GK <3"or "RIP Melanie" are such examples. Often, I see colorful spray-painted wording on walls and tunnels. I am never entirely sure as to what they say, but I believe colors of the paint and shaping of the letters are beautiful, and have character. I actually like to take walks so I can admire graffiti up-close, mainly because I am filled with a sense of mystery and the positive feelings graffiti evokes.

I Love My New Studio Apartment On The Edge Of Waikiki

posted on 12 April 2012 in Home and Garden

I recently moved to Hawaii on a whim! It is something I've wanted to do all my life, and now that my kids are off to college, I was finally able to do it! I'd worked in the UK for a long time for a slating and tiling company that helps construct self build houses so I knew a bit about building and what to look out for when property hunting.
When I got here, I quickly found a fantastic studio apartment just on the northwest edge of Waikiki. It is perfect for me! It has a small kitchen, a bathroom, space for my king size bed, a futon, Television, and desk. It's just enough space for me! I also love the location of my new home. It's close enough to the action, but far enough away that I'm not disturbed by any loud noises. Also, I cannot get enough of this view! I live way high up and can see mountains, the ocean, the canal, and a beautiful city. I've never been happier (or more bronzed)!
